changing bulb on old square recessed light

I am having trouble getting into the light to change out the bulb. They date back to 1974. When I jiggle the glasses each of the 4 ways , it seems to get caught on something, so that I can't get into the light. Is their a trick?

This seems like such a simple thing, but I've worked on 2 lights, and am unable on both. Could it be a swelling of the plaster ceiling?

Suggestions?

Is there a separate trim or is it plastered in? The trim usually comes of in the latter case. It's in with screws or springs. If it's plastered in, you just have to push on the glass until it yields.
