Alternatives to 'boob' Lights in kitchen

HI

I have plain old flush mount lighting in my kitchen in a brushed steel finish. I have two and I want to update them, but I dont know what to choose. I also have a ceiling fan in the eat in part of the kitchen (we dont use with a table as of right now) I would like to have pendants over my attached island but currently the way one of the flush mount fixtures is placed it would have to be moved to be able to do that.

I would love to do recessed lighting but I dont see that happening anytime soon.

Thanks for your advice

Would your ceilings permit the hanging of a small informal chandelier? If so take a look at the Kichler Daphne chandelette KI-2269NI in brushed nickel. That line also has matching pendants and flush mounts.
