Any object hanging from the ceiling/ walls have to be adequately supported from the mounting points.

Taking the example of track lighting, the mounting points need to be positioned such that the screws are anchored into a structure (e.g. - joist) that can support the entire assembly.

Transformers / power supplies are never engineered to bear anything other than an electrical load.

Thanks davidtay. This is a deck house- similar to post and beam. Ceilings are tongue and groove cedar, insulation, then the roof. I was told by the electrician that linear track or the use of conduit is what needs to be used. I heard somewhere that there were transformers that supported a heavier load. I believe there's enough joists under the ceiling to support whatever, but may go back to conduit as it seems a simpler solution.
