Why so close?

The shortest I recall was about 6 inches, except on small 'power strip' type items (cord and plug connected).

Yeah, stagger the outlets and you'll get one every 3"! If you line up the strip so that you have a plug closer to the end, you might be able to fit 4 plugs in an 18" span.

How many things do you plan on using at the same time?

The NEC requirement is every 48 inches (no place more than 24 inches).

Hi yall -- It's not a question of having multiple appliance going at once, but not having to unplug things.

Staggering sounds like a great idea but I don't want the thickness (width).

In that location I've decided to skip the plugmold; just couldn't get it to work. There are wall sockets instead. Pity. I still think there would be a market for undercabinet not-ugly, not-heavy strip mold, but oh well.

So you want a cord forest?

Well, they might not stay plugged in always, but I'd rather not be switching things back and forth, here and there. It's like having a spot for everything in drawers. Underneath the counter it's not as if they're in the way at all ...

Anyway, it's not happening for a variety of reasons. Personally, I think they're far less onerous than wall outlets, especially disrupting a backsplash, but I understand my taste is not as others'. I've been thinking about it and figure maybe it's because I spent many formative years playing at a lab bench! I think I just think strips of outlets are the way they're supposed to be. Or something.
