Beam Lighting

We are about to start a kitchen remodel which involves removing a wall (the wall currently separates the kitchen from the dining room). In its place will be a beam with a head height to match a similar opening on an adjacent wall (~ 6' - 8"). There will be a 36" wide peninsula centered under the beam and I'm looking for lighting solutions. I spoke with the GC regarding this and he indicated that the beam could be framed higher with a false bottom to allow for cans of some sort in the bottom of the beam. Any recommendations for a small, hopefully LED can, that would provide good task lighting for the peninsula below? The peninsula is 4' - 4" long under the beam and the whole span of the beam is 7' - 10". I was thinking maybe 3 or 4 small cans in the whole span with at least 2 over the peninsula. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
