wall sconces up or down?

Hi all. Is there any reason why a wall sconce that's pictured pointing up couldn't be turned upside down? We have a small powder room we are remodeling. We have installed a corner vanity and mirror cabinet and would like two single bulb sconces on either side of the corner mirror. Most of the sconces I've seen have the bulbs pointing up. These will be the only two lights in the room and I really need them to point down. Can I flip them?

You can invert the fixtures but you may have issues with the bulbs burning base up (short life) from the heat. Given that the lights normally won't be on that long I doubt it will be a problem.
If it does become a problem you can buy bulbs designed for use in a paddle fan light which are designed for burning base up.

Some are designed for hanging either way, some just one way. The package should specify.
