Landscape Lighting- Indoor Timer ok if protected?

I also have this question out to our landscape project manager, but since communication has been hit or miss, thought I'd post here as well.

My question is whether an indoor rated timer is ok to us outside if it is protected from the elements?

Background- We had landscapers install landscape lighting- the transformer is outside (Kichler 300 pro series) and the timer they used is a Intermatic DT620.

We were left with no manuals, instructions, etc. (following up on that) so when I looked online I was surprised to see that the DT620 is for indoor use.

Because this timer is protected from the elements (it's inside the transformer box) is it acceptable to use this outdoors, or should I push back for an outdoor rated timer?

I appreciate the input- this is the last phase of the project and I am ready to be done with this. I'm tired from pushing back on 100 little things. Guess I should be thankful they're responsive when I do, but I just don't understand why everything has to be a battle. Ugh.
