 o
bathroom vanity lighting

I'm replacing the lighting fixtures in my master and guest bath. They both have those horrible hollywood light bars now above the mirrors. First question is, which is better, down or up lights? I like the look of the down lights better but I don't know if that will produce a glare off the mirror. Second, my master vanity is 87" long and I just want one light fixture centered over the mirror, which is the same length as the vanity. Should I get a 4 or 5 light fixture? Thanks!

Side sconces are usually used (in residences) to provide even illumination close to the face while minimizing shadowing.

The key is to figure out a good level of lighting first (e.g. ~ 30 lumens per sq ft around the make up area), then picking out the fixtures that would provide the requisite light level.
