Question about LED recessed lights

We went to Home Depot to look for LED lights for the kitchen and came back confused. They have ones that say "LED Trim", are those the ones that we should be looking at? Or can we get any kind and then just put LED bulbs in them? Thanks!

Yes, you can do either of those.

The best deal going, if you like the look, is the HD version of the Cree CR6, which is sold as the Ecosmart ECO-575L. The price recently dropped to under $35. This product acts as both light and trim, and will fit most standard 6 inch cans. There is a new version which should be available in the next month or two which puts out more light (800 lumens vs. 570 lumens). It will probably cost $10-$15 more.

These dim quite well, if that is something that interests you.

LED with built-in trim kit good if you have recessed lights (or are installing new ones). LED separate bulbs good if you already have existing non-recessed lamp fixtures that you want to keep, or if you want flush-mount or surface-mount rather than recessed lights on the ceiling.

I read something somewhere about having white on the inside makes it glare? Is that a problem with these?

Short answer is no. There is a diffuser. The following link has more details that you might find helpful

attofarad, you mentioned that EcoSmart is coming out with a new LED that puts out 800 lumens. Any idea what the color temperature on that is? I've been looking for LED recessed lights around 3000K-3200K.

RE: Question about LED recessed lights

The Cree CR6/EcoSmart ECO-575L line is only available in 2700K.

Also, Cree has indicated that the 800 lumens variant will only be sold under the Cree brand. It will not be available as an EcoSmart model.

The 800 lumens variant of the Cree CR6, the CR6-800L, is already available. Polar-Ray has it for about $53.
