under cab lighting and wireing

In my build, the GC never talked with the light supplier as to my wants. As it is, the GC wired for fluorescent lights. Xenon would work as well. They have 120v romex coming out of the walls for each length of cab wired to one switch so they could direct connect the fixtures. I was talking with the light guy about LED which required a different wire scheme.Back splash is up so too late to rewire without lots of cost. That would be my cost not the GC. (too long a story)

Im looking for dimmable lights and am concerned of the heat from xenon. I may try to retrofit LED later on. Any advice? Is there a way to install LED with the current config with the romex coming through the wall and backsplash?

How is the heat issue outside the cab like at counter level and such? I read a coffee maker can be melted to a degree under a cab light. Easy to burn hands?
