I have three recessed can ceiling lights that were put in circa 1985. Have always used incandescent floods in them. One burned out so I got 23 watt (120 watt equivalent) Ecosmart CFL floods from Home Depot. No go - they won't light up.

The switches for the lights are not regular, not dimmers. The bulbs are rated "not dimmable."

The package says "ideal for these applications" and has a picture of a track light and a recessed can.

The cans are open (no covers).

When I put an incandescent bulb into the fixture where the bulb burned out, it works fine.

Did the old recessed can fixtures require a minimum load? The can is labeled 150 watts maximum, but there's no mention of a minimum.
