Retrofit old post light to solar

I have a typical old steel post w/ Colonial coachlight-looking electric fixture. I'd like to convert it to solar as the power to it doesn't work any longer. I'd prefer to put a solar fixture inside the old fixture if that would work. Anyone done this?

The issue is going to be mounting the solar panel.

A small one may not produce enough power for anything buy a rather dim light.

Then there is the question of batteries - physical size, location, chemistry used.
If you're into rigging electronics and batteries, there are high energy density Lithium polymer batteries...
