Power/Light at 2 feet, not at 4 feet

Have a string of about 10 lights have been working since i moved in. They stopped working. I replaced the transformer with a new one, upgraded from 88watts to 120. Still nothing. Upon further experimentation i find that if i snap a light on about 2 feet from the transformer, it lights up. If i move it down another two feet, it does not light up.

What does this indicate? How can i further troubleshoot? How can i fix it?

thanks for any input

It sounds like you have a short in the circuit somewhere. Move the light along the track until it doesn't light up to find the spot. Just my 2 cents...
