What would you do? Non-IC approved can lights already installed.

Hello,
We are in the midst of a kitchen renovation and when my contractor went into our attic to see if he could add lighting he noticed that the lights we have are Non-IC (not approved to be installed next to insulation). He and my husband talked through the situation and decided that instead of replacing all of the lights we could possibly just put a metal dome (for lack of a better word) around each light and make sure insulation can't get near them. What would you do? Does this sound like a safe enough plan or should we replace them all.
Thanks so much for your help!
Lisa
p.s. The current lights are 3" halogen "puck" lights.
