Outdoor motion detector light only works when in rains!

Why does my outdoor motion light only work when it rains? It's the strangest thing. It doesn't work any other time, only when it's raining. Any ideas what could be causing this and how I can get it to work all the time?

Have you tried to adjust the light sensitivity setting on fixture?

Yes, I have. No difference.

If the sensitivity adjustment makes no change then you have a defective unit. Get it exchanged.

It's not new. It worked for years, but now only when it rains. Isn't that strange?

eMail the manufacturer of the fixture and see if they can offer advice... but it is most likely that motion sensing component has become defective.

"It's not new. It worked for years, but now only when it rains. Isn't that strange?" Consumer electronics and moisture have never been a good combination. Commercial manufacturers rarely use the needed coatings (called 'conformal coating' on the electronics) for long term reliability in damp/wet environments.

Does rain (water) conduct electricity? Maybe it's completing the circuit somehow. It fascinates me how it works in the rain only.
