Low Voltage Wiring

I am going to put some low voltage lights up in a pergola I built last summer. Hope to hide them in the beams, and have this question. The wire used for low voltage lights outside normally gets buried in the soil. So if I run it on top of this pergola, will the sun bake and crack the wire? I wanted it on top, out of sight, but may have to run it along the side; I definitely don't want it on the bottom of the beams. I am located in Nor Cal.

Esposed outside wiring should be in conduit.

Landscape cable is typically rated both sunlight resistant and direct burial. The link is for a good brand of cable. They should also be able to answer your question. Their cable meets the code for both "romex" and landscape cable and is two tone with a brown side to better match tree bark when running up the tree for up or moon lighting. I know people run landscape wires on patio structures but I'm not sure it is NEC approved to do that. Texas is likely correct.
