Cfl question

I would like to replace the bulbs in my hi-hats with cfl's. The question is my switch is a dimmer. If I use the dimmer as just an on/off switch no dimming. Can I use regular cfl's or do I need dimmable cfl's? I would rather not change the switch to a regular on/off one. TIA

RE: Cfl question

You need to either replace the dimmer with a regular switch or get dimmable CFLs. A dimmer even at full brightness is still dimming the circuit and the ballast of the CFL will not get clean power.

RE: Cfl question

True true,,
I've have one light that I have cfl in ,, occasionally the bulb gets replaced... that has been on a incandescent dimmer for several years. It doesnt dim, but occasionally someone twists that dimmer.. doesnt seem to do anything.
