For a new recessed fixture, what are the considerations in choosing the PAR size. Will a larger PAR floodlight throw light more evenly into the room?

Also, the space we're lighting is about 20x8, with 8 ft ceiling. I wonder if 3 LED cans, evenly spaced along the 20 ft, would provide good general illumination.
