Recessed Lighting for Kitchen

I am doing a total gut of my kitchen complete with addition of what we call the Big Island of Hawaii and new cabinets and appliances. Part of the remodel involves addition of recessed lighting. I have no idea about how many to place or wear to place them. We have a main sink where we are putting under cabinet lighting and we are centering a ceiling fan with lights over the island. We have about 500 square feet of space.

Does anyone have any good resources we can harvest ideas from?
