overhead beam in kitchen

I need suggestions on what type of lighting I need to consider for a new construction. The kichen will have 6x12x18 solid wood beams. The beams are supporting the upper loft. My builder can run wires (router & drill) within the beams, so I'm not looking for HOW. I need to know WHAT.

I have a 3 pendant island light in aged bronze, but I need additional lights for the the rest of the kitchen. The bottom of the beams will be 8ft from the floor.

Anyone that might be able to help you will want to know how far apart the beams are and where they are located in the room. If you need help with decorative fixtures to hang from the beams then you are asking for both interior design and lighting design help. Both require a lot of info about the room and you. Will you have under cabinet task lighting? Can you also put fixtures in the ceiling/floor above?
