David, will that lamp work in a totally-enclosed luminaire in a warm climate?

Cree is about the only LED bulb manufacturer that doesn't have a warning not to use their bulbs in totally enclosed fixtures (as long as there are no non-LED bulbs in the same enclosed fixture). They're rated for ambient temperatures of -13ð to 113ðF. They also usually work with dimmers and ambient-light sensors (that turn lights on at night automatically) or motion sensors. They're the least finicky LED light bulb out there at the moment.

Yes. I have one totally enclosed and it's still working. Previously, I had cfls and they didn't last very long in that fixture.

I applaud the high power factor of the Cree. That is unusual in a residential product. The 5000K color temp is nice too. Efficiency is not that great compared to linear T8. The Cree, however, can go places that linear T8 can not.

The efficiency is better than a typical spiral CFL which is ~60 lumens per watt.

Seriously, I just recently came to the conclusion that I may be a too critical of the short range of color temps for LED and (residential) CFL since there is only one for incandescent. Sure, the range pales in comparison to linear tubes, but they do go where linear tubes do not go. I will probably continue to complain about the crappy residential color range, CRI, and quality compared to the commercial stuff.
