Light plan - meeting with electrician

Meeting with the electrician tomorrow - ALL thoughts welcome!

Although it is not yet time for him, I have only a few days here and need to make sure we discuss the important things since I won't be here when it is time for him..

I know the basics - such as be sure to plan for undercabinet lighting, island outlets, outlets in key places in a couple of cabinets, outlets near beds, , overhead fans,exterior now and future plans (jacuzzi) - and have dimmers on all. What else should I be sure to discuss?

Our plan is below - I am assuming recessed lighting in the kitchen with at least three over the work areas along each of the L walls, and pendants over the island (should these be centered?). Should the island also have recessed lights above it.

The dining area will have a fixture overhead. Should this area also have recessed lights? What type of light should go in the small pantry?

The family room will have a TV above the fireplace - so I am thinking recessed lighting along both opposing walls?

Altho trivial, if you'll have a TV over the fireplace, consider...

An Outlet there for the TV.

A chase thru the wall to wherever your data / cable / audio equipment will be.

Run Cat-5 to the TV as well. Newer cable boxes are moving in that direction.

Good suggestions.

Met with contractor's electrician and it is clear that I need to understand more to ensure we know what we are getting and it is a good plan.

I keep reading and rereading the posts on this forum - especially DavidTay- I think I am finally making progress in comprehending some of it! I need to do it a few more times then perhaps be able to ask a few coherent questions and lay out a plan.

For the TV on the wall, a media cabinet location is required to house all the electronics.
A recessed media cabinet is preferable.
TV wiring needs
1. 120V AC for the TV,
2. hdmi cable (3. ethernet.
4. audio cables.

Depending on the amount of electronics you intend to keep in the cabinet,
1. Separate breaker, power conditioner
2. Low voltage wiring for
a. Ethernet wiring (2 or more drops)
b. Audio wiring (5.1 or 7.1)
...

The low voltage and line voltage wiring need to be separated as much as possible to minimize interference.

You may also need ventilation for the media cabinet and probably a pull out rack setup.

As for lighting, lighting over islands are usually pendants, though recessed lighting is possible
