| We have a very large island - 10' X 4'. We have lots of ceiling cans with CF bulbs, and now have to pick island lighting. How many lumens in pendants do you have over your island, and do you think it's enough? We think we need largish pendants - >10" because the island is so big. And they all seem to be designed for 1 100W indandescent bulb. I think that's not enough. Your opinions valued. (This will be cross-posted on Kitchens). |

| Our island is similar-sized, 9' x 4', with a single ceiling fan over the center of the island. We installed recessed cans (75 watt) per our lighting consultant's suggestion. There are a total of 14 cans, four in an inner rectangle + 10 in an outer rectangle, each on separate circuits with dimmers. This seems to have worked well for both general and task lighting. We didn't really consider pendant lighting since we were afraid it would interfere with the ceiling fan + with a tall cathedral ceiling didn't think it would look right. |
