X Post-Lighting in living room

We have a tray ceiling in our living room with recessed lights on the outside of the tray. We are putting in a fan but I do not know if we should do one with or without a light kit. Does anyone have a preference either way?

We have never had recessed lights so I am not sure what will be used more. The house we are in now we tend to use more lamps than overhead lighting.

It is all personal preference, but if your ceiling is over 8' I'd recommend a light kit on the fan.
