Photos! At what height should I put the ceiling fans in a great r

I am putting ceiling fans in this room and I'm wondering at what height should they be placed? At the same height as the beams or above them? I was initially going to go higher than the beams, but the builder is suggesting at the same height as the beams, so as not to compete w/ the beams visually.... SUGGESTIONS? Thanks!
