Recessed Lighting in Palster ceiling

Hi There,

I'm putting recessed lighting in our family room, but now realize that the standard remodel cans aren't the right size for our plaster/lath ceiling.

The Halo 5" cans for example work for a maximum ceiling thickness of 5/8" and our plaster/lathe is 1".

Also, this makes the cavity in the ceiling shorter than the standard can needs - the Halo can needs 7-1/2" but the space we have is just about 7-1/4".

I haven't found any cans specifically for thicker ceilings and smaller cavaity spaces.

Any advice appreciated.

Thank You.
