MR16 recessed lighting in kitchen

My GC wants to put in 10 Elite Lighting 4" remodel housing canisters 12volt with MR16 bulb. He said I could choose 50w, 20w or 35 watts.

First do I even want MR16 lights in my kitchen or should I just go with incandescent? My kitchen is 12x14

If I do go with the MR16 lights is 10 enough and what wattage do I want? He said he would put them on a dimmer.

My designer says the light on the halogen bulbs are ugly and not warm. She is steering me away from them. My GC says yes thats all he is installing in kitchens these days.

In some parts of the USA (eg - California), it is illegal to install only incandescent lighting in the kitchen.

Halogen lights will typically have a white color output.

I've not seen a kitchen only lit with MR16s as those lamps are typically used as mini spot lights and have a fairly narrow cone of intense light.

Look at the LED recessed can guide for the kitchen thread which has more information than just on LED.

A bit late, but I use MR-16s in my kitchen (recessed and pendant) and they give excellent light for cooking, and when dimmed give a warm look.
