Kitchen lights: proposed plan and ? about under cabinets

We're doing a gut/remodel of a kitchen and have decided on white cabinets and marble countertops (including island/breakfast bar). The window over the skin faces west. The dining room past the kitchen has a 5' sliding door facing east. Ceiling is 7' high. Below are my early thoughts for a plan. Leaning towards 4" halogen cans and a central flush/semi-flush fixture.

My wife does not think that we need under cabinet lights. We've had them in only one previous apartment and never turned them on. We've talked to friends who say the same - they never use them. I'm wondering if the white cabinets and counters will provide enough light so as to not require under cabinets. Also, would it make sense to 'future-proof' with a plugmold at the base of each upper cabinet if we wanted to put them in the future?

Thanks,

E
