Suspended ceiling light part names and advice needed

I would like advice on a home made dining room light that involves suspending a 16 or 18 inch diameter neckless globe about 42" below an eleven foot plus ceiling with brass hardware. From internet research, I have discovered that the part between the ceiling box and the suspending tube is called a canopy. Next comes a brass tube extending down to the globe with the wiring inside. At the low end of this comes the part that connects the tube to the globe and closes the hole in the top of the globe which I have found is 5 1/4" for the diameters I am considering. What is the name of this part and how does it connect to the globe? Also, how does the tube connect to this part at the bottom and to the canopy at the top? Finally, can anyone recommend web sites or books that provide instruction sources of materials for a project of this type.

Thanks, John
