painting light bulbs

spoonbill

I installed "angle-able" recessed ceiling bulbs to illuminate two walls - one over a mantel, and the other over a floor to ceiling cabinet. We have low ceilings, alas, and I was afraid the eyeball-type fixtures would be ugly. Unfortunately, though, the angled bulbs shine all the way to the floor - there's just no way to angle them high enough to, say, just illuminate the picture over the mantel, which is what I wanted. I wondered if it would be possible to just paint HALF of a lightbulb to create sort of a lame, faux "spot" light. Has anybody heard of such a thing, or is there any dark paint that could take the heat. THANKS!!!
