Lights in wall, above office desk?

Can I install lights that attach to the wall (drywall) that would point down on my office desk? I rent an apartment in Boston, so I don't know what the options are. Is there a way to have these lights run behind the wall, but not require rewiring an existing outlet? I don't want to rewire any outlets for the extra lights but do not want the light cords/wires to be visible.

These under cabinet lights can be direct wired. It can also be mounted on the wall if you'd like.
