How to hide Washer shut off valves?

I'm planning a laundry room in a closet that only has a sink in it now. I would like to put the washer shut off valves under the sink if this is possible, because they are ugly. Is this ok to separate the shut off valves from the washer drain rather than using that standard box that has them all together? I read that the washer drain has to be at the level of the top of the washer to prevent siphoning or backup, is that correct? So, I need suggestions to hide that. Thank you!
