SUMMIT washer experience?

Hello!
I need to retire my DANBY washer after 5 and 1/2 years of faithfull work (not bad for $399!).
Before that I had a CREDA which worked for 8 years.
As you can see I am a fun of European-built machines and of 220V hot water washing (except for the DANBY but the price was unbeatable!)
I am trying to shop around for my new washer and I am considering the SUMMIT.
Does anyone who owns it have thoughts (good or bad) about it?
Do you know who makes it and where is it made?
Any other suggestions for a washer at 220V that *heats* up to 90C (194F).
By the way I do not understand why washers in the US need a hot water inlet when this is not true in Europe .... but this is a different story I guess.... |

| OK. I am answering parts of my questions! I called SUMMIT to discover that they only sell 2 models: the 220V/*50hz* (SW1122) model which cannot be used in the US (50 Hz!) And a 110V/60Hz model (SW1102) which is made by .... GORENJE...the same European company who made the DANBY! I am still interested in comments from people who own one :) |

| Bosch and Asko make the two most popular 240V washers sold in the US, although only the Asko offers near-boiling temperatures. The Bosch has more capacity though and seems easier to use. Amongst lesser-known brands, there is Fagor which sure looks good on paper - 240v, up to 195°F, 7kg/15 1/2 lb. capacity, and evidently a single water inlet (cold only) on some models although it appears to be offered with hot and cold intakes as well - the instructions PDF talks of "if your washer is equipped with a hot water inlet..". They also soon will sell a 240v combo all-in-one washer/dryer whose specs aren't online yet - if it shares the specs of the aforementioned washer (FA-5812), that's a product the US market desperately needs. Another brand offering 240v washers is Blomberg although they only heat to 160°F. Also look into AEG, which sells through Euro-Line Appliances based in Canada, I think they have a 240V unit. Miele used to be the best (if most expensive) in this category, but unfortunately they only sell 120V washers here now. Don't know about the new ones, but the Summit washers sold a few years back were similar to the Danby except that the door opening can be reversed. A rare 120V washer with ultra-high-temp heating capability, albeit slower due to the strained electrical supply. |
