ASKO Dryer Overheat & Thermal Breaker

| I have Asko T761 and it has been ok for many years until recently.
When I have a load of cotton towels or a large load of heavy clothings on Normal temp, the dryer's back will get really hot and shut off the dryer until I reset the breaker in the back.
If I have it at Low temp or load only half the load, then it runs ok but of course it takes a long time.
I took it apart and cleaned all lint, even used the air compressor to blow it out of the heater element. That is where I noticed there is a black charred line on "paper" separator inside the heating element enclosure.
Anyone know what is happening here?
I emailed RepairClinic.com and they said:
"Sounds like one of the heating element itself is shorted to ground and heating all the time. Or perhaps the heat relay is shorted out but the only way to know for sure is to do some electrical testing with a volt/ohm meter and the wiring diagram located within the appliance"
Please help!

Is this a condenser dryer or a conventional vented dryer? If it's a condenser dryer, I can't offer any advise. If it's a vented dryer, have you checked for obstructions in the venting duct? If it's a fairly long duct, there may be built-up lint clogging the line. Try disconnecting the dryer from the vent duct, then blowing the duct out with a leaf blower.

I cleaned the duct from dryer to wall. I ran the dryer withOUT the duct attached to its rear. Same result.

Might this have anything to do with the infamous fuse issue with the Asko dryers? My fuse kept blowing and I had an Asko-authorized "fuse bypass" procedure done on the dryer. Apparently many dryers suffered from this problem. I'm not sure if yours is the same or not, but give Asko a call.

I think the fuse is doing its job because the area in the back of the dryer near the heat element is VERY HOT when it shuts down. The fuse is different than a thermal breaker. So are we talking about the same thing? Where is this fuse that you are referring to? I find that ASKO customer service not very knowledgeable.

I meant to say the 'thermal breaker' is doing its job. It senses the dryer overheating and shuts it down. The fuse shuts down a electrical flow if there's too much current drawn. That's my understand of the difference between the two.

This has just happened to me on October 28. Any follow up with suggestions on what I might do to regain confidence in the innards of my machine. I have cleaned the lint filter and the lint exhaust. Asko model 7305. Thanks for any help/assurance.

I really don't think that this is worth the risk of a fire. I suggest that you both call the Asko tech support and speak to them. Yes, you may just be told to have an authorized technician come for a service call. You can try asking to speak to a technician. I know that Asko customer service leaves something to be desired, I've had experience with them lately. But we out here in cyberspace can't give you a fire-proof guarantee.

I agree, spend a few bucks on a service call and sleep in peace! :)

To ease your minds: I did call Asko and got good service from them. Not good news, though, as it was suspected that circuit board or motor was dead. Independent appliance repair service confirmed it was the motor, not the belt, and cost of replacement for 13 year old appliance led me to buy a new Asko T712 from US Appliance. I have had good experience with this vendor, by the way. Thanks for your concern.

I'm sure you will enjoy your new T712, and good luck with it.
