Mine had a strong odor of oil in it, lost the receipt so I tossed in the washer with a couple of other throw rugs. Came out fine, no harm to the washer.

Just washed a couple of bath rugs like this today. Regular cycle, "low" dryer temp. Threw a dry towel into the dryer to speed things up. Came out a bit damp but fine.

There is no way to fix a piece of memory foam once it is broken. You might be able to shift some of the lumps here and there but it's not going to be much better.
