Laundry Closet planning

I have a relatively small upstairs closet (4'8" x 30") that I had plumbed for my washer and dryer and a small countertop.

I have a few questions:

1. How much space above the counter clear to the first shelf? I have 23" in my plan but want to know your opinion

2. How deep to make the shelves above for detergent, baskets, etc.

3. How much clearance between shelves.

If you have opinions, let them fly!

How many shelves are you putting up?

Up to you. I guess the 1st and 3rd questions are related. The position of the lowest shelf and the spacing is dependent on how many shelves you can fit.

As far as question 2.. If you are making the shelves yourself, you would need to connect to 2 studs anyways...so that's 16-18 inches so would make it at least that wide.
