What to do with broken washer?

I had started another thread about my LG Top loader HE washer that is broken, but now have a new problem and need some advice!

LG top loader, WT5101H. HE washer, purchased Feb. 2011.

Now I'm not sure what to do.

The LG customer service rep I talked to on Saturday was wrong- she said both labor and parts are covered for the error code, but now I've found out that only parts are covered, not labor.

To get the washer "diagnosed" is $135. If a rotor has to be replaced, the repair guy said labor could get pricey (but wouldn't give me an estimate). I suspect it might be the rotor, we had to have one replaced after just 1 year, and the washer is experiencing the same problem, although it could be a different issue.

I hate to put several hundred dollars to fix this washer. I'd rather just buy a Speed Queen to replace it. But what do I do with a washer that isn't working? I hate to send it to the dump.

What have others done with broken washers? These modern washers are so much more expensive to repair than the old top loading washers...

I could put a sack of squirming garbage at the curb with a paper sign on it that said "FREE" and it would be gone within half an hour.

Your washer will be at a recycler site or a used appliance shop within the day.

When I bought mine the set up/delivery guys took them away, cost me $15. and worth it.

I'd sell/give it away "as is" or as "parts donor".

First, I'd run it through the diagnostic mode, though, to see what's up with it.

Thanks all for the reply.

We decided to order a new Speed Queen, 542 top load washer. Will be arriving in a week.

The LG has error code Ue (NOT UE, which is unbalanced load). Apparently Ue means there is something wrong with the motor system. could be simple, or could be the rotor like last time, either way, just to diagnose, places want over $100 to come out to see what's wrong, then more on top of that to fix it...

cold weather is evil- I laughed at your post. Unfortunately, our driveway is extremely steep and there is no way we could move our washer down the driveway safely to put a "free" sign on it. We also live on a street with little traffic, I doubt my neighbors would be interested in a free, broken washer...

The Speed Queen dealer is going to have our broken LG washer removed for a small fee. I asked what will happen to it- I don't want it to end up in the landfill. She assured me it won't end up there- it will either be sent to recycling, or will be used for parts. I don't care either way, I just don't want it to end up in the landfill...

Tell us more about your Speed Queen. Which model did you get? Was it expensive? I am wishing you all the best with your new machine. This new washer thing is for the birds. I am on my second new pair in 5 years. My previous set was fine at 18 years old but for some reason I got sucked in with all the rebates and government credits to upgrade your appliances a few years ago and that is what started this fiascoÃ¢ÂÂ¦dumb me...
