I would go with the LG because they have the recirculation system and spray clothes during both wash and rinse. WP might have that but I am not sure. If you dont mind shopping at Sears you might find the Kenmore version of the LG at a better price on sale at some point.

Whirlpool has been in the laundry business for over 100 years. If you are a U.S. resident, I would say go with Whirlpool. Parts and service would be easier to get should you need them.

I haven't used LG machines but I have a Whirlpool FL set that has been trouble free for almost 8 years. I agree with the others - parts and service would be more available for the WP. I actually called a few appliance service companies before I bought mine and they all said they could fix WP fast. Fortunately I haven't needed them :) They were less enthusiastic about FP and Bosch, which were popular at the time.

Might want to do some research on the steam function if it costs extra. Many users say it is just a marketing tool.
