Plumbing and Electrical that works for side by side or stacked?

We are about to start on the electrical/plumbing and venting for our laundry room. I will likely select a stackable front loader (probably LG entry level model) but want an option to go side by side without the ugly vent showing. I don't mind so much the water hook up because it is small, but the vent/gas requires an approx 1'x2' high box where the duct and the gas line come out. Any thoughts to how to configure it so I can get both options? Can I have that vent box placed lower to the ground so that it is hidden even though I may have the dryer stacked on top of the washer?
Thanks

Maybe I'm not understanding the situation, but if you center the vent on the rear wall, 2 feet or so above the floor, then the stacking units would hide it and so would a side by side installation.

A 1 by 2 foot box sounds huge just for a 4" dryer vent and a gas line.
