I have an LG washer and a dryer that are stacked. I am 5'6" and have no issues reaching in for stray socks at the back of the drum. In fact, I really like having my dryer door up high so that I don't have to bend over when taking out and folding laundry. The controls are not a problem to reach but you could have a problem reading any electronic displays if the control panel is slanted back (some front loaders I have seen have the door panel sort of sticking out like a big belly, with the controls that are not flat but the panel is set back and slightly slanted, so I would imagine this may be hard to see or reach if the appliances are stacked). Also, if you are really petite, I would think it may be more difficult to use a stacked set.
