New & Improved Laundry Room with Before/After

This is my first post, even though I've been lurking around here for awhile.

My first project in my 1970's home that has never been remodeled. I grew up in this house, and recently took over when I got married this past April. My first project...the laundry room. I picked the laundry room, to test my abilities of refinishing cabinets, since these cabinets are the same in the kitchen. The laundry room is not yet complete, but you get the jist.

I used SW Alabaster in a semi-gloss on the cabinets, and the walls are painted BM Saybrook Sage in eggshell. I wanted a nice clean relaxing color in here, because I absolutely HATE doing laundry!!

Suggestions & ideas are very welcomed!!!

Wow, beautiful transformation. Can you tell us, did you prime the cabinets first? How many coats of paint did you use? They look like brand new cabinets.

Thanks!! I did prime!! My goal was to make it look as if the cabinets came white, and not "hey...I painted them and you can tell!!!"

My How-To:

1) Took down the cabinets and sanded with a black & decker mouse sander 80 grit.
2) Vac all the sandings (very important!!)
3) Primed with SW Prep Rige Pro Block Primer
4) Sanded again with a 220 grit
5) Vac
6) Primed again
7) Sanded AGAIN with 220
8) Vac
9) Applied 2 coats SW Pro Classic Alabaster (its self-leveling so it helps for a smoother cleaner finish)
1. Dry for a few days then added hardware
I also found I had a small gap along the sides where the cabinets met the wall and ceiling. So I ended up sealing it with latex caulk. A very easy step, yet make a HUGE difference, in my opinion.

wow, you did a factory finish on them. No way do they look like you "painted them". Great job.

I also believe the SW's self-leveling paint helped the most. It allowed me to have absolutely NO brush strokes. The CS rep @ SW recommended oil base instead of latex to hide the wood grain showing through. But I hate messing with oil base and it takes forever to dry, so I went with latex. I can see the wood grain but its not noticeable even though I would prefer to see more of it (gives it character).
