I grew up with Maytags. They certainly don't make them like that anymore.

Some machines are worth every penny of their repair costs. What I wouldnt give to have the Maytag 712 pair back we once had, though the dryers Maytag made all the way up till Whirlpool took over were very good.

The only company that comes closest to the old maytags is Speed Queen. Traditional belt driven top load washers with no electronic sensors; just old fashioned dials and a full wash done in about 35 minutes.

Oh yeah, and the best warranty out there. I'm not affiliated with Speed Queen, just a satisfied customer after 2 months of ownership. We'll see in the long haul.
