| I am building a custom home and my builder does not want to put a drain in the laundry room because he says they are not really necessary anymore and the drain can be smelly. I think there should be a drain but I'm not a builder. Any thoughts? |

| The drain will only be smelly if the water in the sewer trap dries up. This happens to a shower stall in our home that we never use. To fix that, you pour a gallon of water down the drain to fill the trap, and the odor goes away. Often I remember to pour the water down *before* it dries up, and we never get the odor. If I had the option of a drain in the floor of my laundry room, I would take it. |
