| We just purchased a new house, and need to purchase a W/D. I have no idea what to buy, but probably want a front loading set, say less than $1,500, maybe around $1000-1200?
Since we want to get one that Sears has on sale (probably through a price match at Lowes or Home Depot), I'm looking for help/tips on the following: Which brands to go for, which to avoid?
Thanks! |

| I also answered your same question in the kitchens forum. You need to do some research first by reading through several pages (at least) of past threads. This will give you an idea where to start. |

| I do not recommend the Whirlpool Duet. You'll get about 5 years tops out of it, and most likely will have some sort of issues that need repaired before then. The computer boards don't seem to hold up. I'm going back to a cheap top loader. |

| After doing some research and talking with a very trusted employee at Lowe's, I've ordered a very basic Whirlpool washer and dryer. The model number on the washer is WTW5300VW. She said they haven't been getting any of those returned. She did say that Maytags were coming back, and that people were complaining that the top loaders without the agitater were not cleaning well. Not sure what you had in mind for a washer and dryer, but this is a fairly basic set that allows you to pick your own water levels, etc. I think it will be economical if it needs repairs, as it is not loaded with computer boards. | I can highly recomend the Kenmore/Whirpool Front loaders, along with the HE Top loaders, LG brand, and Maytags (not the neptunes) I know a lot of people who own these machines and have had great success with them, including my family, so I know that they are not being abused and such. Most people do not read the owners manual before they use these new washers and then wonder and complain as to why they are not performing well. You may find some great deals at Sears on the close out Kenmores. Last time I check, they had over 500 bucks off the top of the line machines. |
