GE Profile washer very noisy

My GE Profile (mdl WPRE8100G0) is 6 years old and still washes OK but makes a v-e-r-y loud noise only during spin cycle. Not a "clicking" or metal-on-metal sound just a ROAR. The front cover was removed to observe the spin cycle - nothing unusual was seen. The water seems to be spun out properly and the wash cycle ends normally so i'm really confused. There seems to be no "play" between the inner & outer tubs so i assume the bearings are OK.

Could a stretched belt be causing the noise ? If so, is it worth trying to replace it by myself ?

Thanx.

Likely bad bearings.
