washing fleece

My toddler had a nasty accident in his Carter's fleece pajamas, and I am not sure how to wash them. They are supposed to be washed on cold, which is what I always do, but I don't think I'm comfortable washing something poopy on cold. I soaked them in cold water with baking soda initially, but I'm not sure what to do now. Warm wash? Hot? BTW, they have a RED background and are relatively new (of course). TIA!

Warm, by themselves or with other red things. Warm water won't hurt the polyester, but some of the dye may bleed.

I would soak it in Oxiclean in very warm water for hours with no detergent. Then rinse and wash. It may fade a bit but fade is better than poop stains! :) Hopefully you haven't let the pajamas dry yet...that's a no-no. |

Soak them with a laundry product that contains enzymes, "Biz" would be a good choice. Or Biokleen "Bac-Out." Or even "Nature's Miracle" pet stain remover. Then wash as usual. Don't put them in the dryer until you are happy with the way the stains have been removed. Dryer heat can set stains and make them almost impossible to remove.

Thanks for the help! I am fresh out of Oxiclean, but I do have Bac-Out, so they are soaking in that now. Then I will launder them on warm. Nature's Miracle seems to have saved the rug, but it will be going to the laundromat on the 1st warm spring day we have. So glad I insisted on a washable rug for the nursery.

I always wash our fleece PJ's (Carter's & Children's Place mostly) on warm and never had an issue. I've even washed them on hot when poop somehow got in them. Hasn't bled on me yet and the fleece is fine.
