Gas dryer exhaust smells like natural gas

Posted by mreber (My Page) on

Just noticed a slight natural gas smell from the exhaust vent on my dryer. I can only smell the gas outside when the dryer is running. I can't smell anything inside when it's on. The clothes seem to be drying just as well as always. Any thoughts?

If I were you, I would contact the gas company. Sounds like a leak. My gas company will come and check stuff like that free of charge. And would not use the dryer until it's checked. Better safe than sorry.

its normal to smell a tiny bit of NG if sniffing the exhaust. relax.

Difficult to know from cyber-distance exactly what "slight" smell may actually be at the op's location.

I vote with beagle nc.....check it out. May be nothing but the peace of mind will be worth it.

contact the gas company the mere fact it smells differently it has a problem

This is what I've heard about natural gas. That the gas has to be scented with that awful smell so that we can detect it. Otherwise natural gas is odorless. If what I heard in the years past is true, then the scent is telling you there is a leak.
