Tin foil in the dryer

I read somewhere that you can use tin foil in the dryer to reduce static cling. Because most of our winter clothes have polyester in them I have a horrible time with static. I don't use fabric softener and only use all natural detergents. I do have a natural dryer sheet that I use but it is fairly expensive and because of the load size I usually need to use 2. Has anyone ever tried this? I would like to but I'm afraid of sharp edges on the foil tearing up the laundry.
