Thanks for the answer but I don't think you understand. I don't want a ruffled scarf. I just want a plain one to put around my neck with a ruffle along the bottom of each end. How do you increase to make it ruffle? Barb

I understand, Barb. The pattern I linked to tells you how to make the ruffle. Doesn't mean you have to make a ruffled scarf. There are several ways to increase, depending on how much ruffle you want. One of my favorites (Eros Ruffled Scarf) has you cast on stitches 3 times the width of your scarf and knit them stockinette for the length you want the ruffle, then knit 3 together on the last row. Then knit your scarf and at the other end, in each stitch knit front, back, then front again. Then knit that ruffle to the same length as your first ruffle and cast off.

Or you could crochet a ruffle on just about any scarf. There are several video tutorials to show you how. Just Google "crochet ruffled edge".
