Looking for soft, non-itchy yarn

I'm looking to knit a few pairs of socks as small Christmas gifts. I already have a pattern and needles.Hurray! But I know several of the recipients are allergic to wool. I'd like to find a synthetic worsted-weight yarn that's soft, not super-expensive and won't bother them. Any suggestions?

I knit socks constantly and buy sock yarn at Hobby Lobby.I have never found the sock yarn to be itchy and it is soft.

Thanks, I don't have a Hobby Lobby nearby but will check Michaels for Bernat.

I found the Bernat Sock Yarn in Michaels, it's very soft and would be great for socks or knee-warmers. I decided not to make pairs of socks, just to make knitted Christmas stockings, and bought some variegated multi-color rainbow Red Heart worsted yarn instead. I'll fill them with chocolates and tie with a pretty ribbon. That will be nice-homemade and edible.

RE: soft yarn

But I've decided the Bernat sock yarn would make some wonderful leg warmers for my daughters.
